Vapour Phase (VPI) and Contact Inhibitors

Our combined Vapour Phase (VPI) and Contact Inhibitors are unique multifunctional, multi-metal, anti corrosion solutions for sealed systems that are quick, simple and highly effective.

With ordinary protective oils all surfaces have to be completely coated to offer protection. This is often difficult to achieve in complex mechanisms such as engines or gearboxes and even when achievable the oil will drain away with a resulting loss of protection.

Volatile Corrosion Inhibitors, usually abbreviated to VCI or VPI, work by continuously releasing a powerful anticorrosion vapour that migrates to all recessed areas and cavities. On contact with metal the vapour is absorbed onto the surface creating a film that will protect the metal from corrosion.

The VCI dissolves in any moisture present converting the moisture itself into a contact corrosion inhibitor. The VCI film re-heals and is self-replenishing through further vapour release and is ideal for protecting difficult to reach or complex mechanisms.

VPI’s can be applied through VPI oils or impregnated papers/polymers and can be used to enhance the performance of traditional temporary protective coatings. Provided that the component to be protected is in a sealed environment, and the correct weight of VCI is introduced, the protection period can be almost indefinite. An enclosed system is recommended for maximum performance from a VPI however typical treat rates will allow for some leakage.

By using a VPI the ease of use and resulting time and labour saving often more than offsets the entire cost of the VPI material.

Our vapour phase inhibitors have been formulated to offer reliable ‘best in class’ performance.

The key features and benefits are:

Combined vapour phase and contact offering multi-functionality.

  • Multi-metal protection, cost effective corrosion protection.
  • Low toxicity and solvent free, improved health, safety and pollution control.
  • Easy to apply makeing it economical to treat hard-to-protect items.
  • No need to remove VCI protection, eliminating extra processing steps.
  • Cost savings made by corrosion damage prevention.

When selecting a VPI, care should be taken to establish compatibility with paints, plastics and the metals to be protected.
